The building was originally a savings bank, taking over the venue after first being under the Town Hall. As the bank’s success took over it became too small and the building was sold for £270 in the 1860s to R Hunter Hairdressers. This was no ordinary hairdressers – read about this in the story on the right. Drydens’ eventually took over as butcher before it became the clock shop it is today.
