Highfields win through to NNL Cup Final

In the Bilclough Cup Tweedmouth Harrow ran out comfortable winners in a 10-0 rout of Craster Rovers.

Jonny Simpson scored twice early in the gam. Craster then missed a penalty when Wardhaugh saved Stanwix’s spot kick and then a Craig Anderson header and an own goal saw the Harrow into a 4-0 lead within the first 15 minutes.

A goal from Martin Tait midway through the half saw the home side take a 5-0 lead into the interval. Early in the second half a Kristian Neil free kick squirmed out of the young Craster keepers grasp to see the Harrow go 6 up.

Nick Moore then completed the scoring for the Harrow with the last four goals which included a hat trick of penalties and a delicate chip to complete double figures.

Embleton W R flying high in Division Two came up against First Division opponents Amble St Cuthbert and it was the visitors from Amble who went home with a hard earned cup victory in a very entertaining match. Embleton took the lead through Ryan Taylor and went in at the break 1-0 ahead.

In the second half Reece Ramsay, Conor Straughan and two from Liam Ramsay were Amble’s scorers to see them into the semi–final with Neil NcFall scoring Embletons second. An excellent cup tie with Embleton holding their own for much of the game and the two goal difference does not do justice as to how close the game was.

North Sunderland gained revenge over Belford for the recent league defeat with a 2-1 victory at Seafield Park. A Neil MacFarlane goal saw North Sunderland into a 1-0 lead at the interval and Robert Scott scored the home side’s second with Ross Morton getting on the score sheet for Belford

The final tie in the Bilclough Cup saw Wooler leave the Pier Field, Berwick with a victory by the odd goal in five against Springhill. Goals for Springhill were scored by Terry Fannon and Darren Flannigan with Ross Tait, Chris Malthouse and Luke Strangeways scoring for Wooler.

The Laidler Lancaster Cup saw three games between teams from Division One and Division Two.

Ashington Town Miners changed their game to Rothbury as the pitch at Ashington was unplayable and Rothbury were 3-2 victors in a very tight game. A goal from Chris Green for the Miners and one from Sam Proudlock for Rothbury saw the sides level 1-1 at half time. Brad Higgins then gave Ashington Town Miners the lead with Michael old equalising for Rothbury then saw Ashington awarded a penalty which the Rothbury keeper saved.

Ashington continued to press for the winner and with game looking like it was heading into extra-time Rothbury caught Ashington on the break and Kyle Smith was on hand to slot home the winner for Rothbury.

Shilbottle returned home from their trip to Ashington West End with a comfortable 9-0 victory. Goalscorers for Shilbottle were Liam Easson with two, Danny Donohoe with one. Brad Simpson with two, Kenny Collins with two and Judd Donohoe also with two.

The final game was a semi-final clash which saw Highfelds United playing Lowick United and goals from Ryan Wedderburn and Myles Wilson saw the visitors into a two goal lead at half time, but goals from Steven Fairbairn and Alan Thompson saw Lowick draw level with the game going into extra time.

No further goals were scored in extra time and as the game went to penalties it was Beveridge in the Highfields goal who turned out to be the hero when he saved Lowick’s final penalty.

Highfields had to play the last 30 minutes of normal time and the whole of extra time with ten men due to an injury to a player and having used all available substitutes.
