High winds cause issues on Northumberland's roads

An overturned lorry on the A1 north of Alnwick is among the problems as strong winds cause difficulties for motorists in north Northumberland.

The A1 southbound was closed earlier near the Denwick junction due to an overturned lorry. Police were on the scene directing traffic.

Fallen trees are causing issues with the B6341 Rothbury to Alnwick road, near Cragside, and the A1 near Berwick, between the B6461 junction and the A6105 Duns Road junction, both partially blocked.

A fallen tree is reported to have closed the road out of Embleton towards Alnwick, near to the church.

Elsewhere, there is disruption at Beal on the Holy Island causeway as the level crossing has failed and there are reports of hedges down on the A1068 between Warkworth and Hipsburn.

The Met Office has warned of winds of 60mph to 70mph, up to 80mph in high and exposed areas, as the UK is hit by Storm Gertrude.
