Harrier Andy tackles gruelling Hardmoors 60

Andy Stephenson was up bright and early on Saturday to tackle the gruelling Hardmoors 60.

This is a 60 miles race on the coast from Guisborough to Filey, taking in the beautiful Cleveland Coast, through Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar, Scarborough and into the finish location, the seaside resort of Filey.

By completing this one Andy has done all the Hardmoors races from 30 to 110 miles! In horrid conditions where two people ended up in hospital, and there were many non finishers, Andy finished 108th in 16.36.55.

Also that day a huge number of people took part in parkruns up and down the country, and abroad!

The fastest 5k of the weekend was set by Dominic Harris at Newcastle where he completed the route in 18.20 to finish 13th. Down at the Hatfield Forest Parkrun near Bishops Stortford Rachelle Falloon followed up her excellent victory in the recent Anne Allan 10k by winning this race in 20.46, her fourth win at the event.

Tim Falconer rocked up at the Stratford upon Avon Parkrun where he clocked 20.01, whilst Jayne McKenna ran the Haigh Woodland Parkrun near Wigan in 33.01 and Richard Eastoe took 32.18 to complete the Workington route.

However, furthest traveller of the weekend was John Ross, who was in Copenhagen tackling the Faelledparken Parkrun. He finished 69th in 27.12!

At the Druridge Bay Parkrun, Shaun Land was Alnwick’s first finisher in eighth place, round in a pb of 19 minutes dead. Next was the first of the two Murray John brothers, Ben, finishing in 10th place in a brilliant 19.37. He just pipped Jon Archer, whilst Ben’s younger brother Max was not far behind in 13th.

For the females another Junior Harrier, Millie Breese, ran well to finish second female in 21.29. She was just ahead of multiple winner Carole Page, who was third female, whilst Jackie Prouse was first in the female 45 category.

Also of note Chris Calvert was taking part in his first parkrun, whilst it was great to see Sheona Duffy back in a Harriers vest!!
