The team at Real Fitness has unveiled its new base at Alnwick’s South Road Industrial Estate, after relocating from the previous unit at Lionheart Enterprise Park.

The move will allow the gym to be open longer and offer a broader range of services to its users.

One of the coaches, Matt Pearce, said: “It is really exciting. We wanted to offer a service to more people and make it open to a greater range of people. The gym is four times the size of our previous one, which means we can offer more.

“There is a coffee shop, a physio treatment room and an upstairs part with free weights. There is more equipment and an artificial turf sports track.

“It also means that we have been able to extend our opening hours – we now operate from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm on a Saturday and 9am to 1pm on a Sunday.”

The team, which also includes Hesus Kidd, Collette Pryer, Rich Pryer and Tony Dunn, describe it as a ‘gym with a difference’.

They say it is the only one in Alnwick which uses the CrossFit methodology. This special type of exercise focuses on core strength and conditioning, with constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity.

As well as CrossFit, the gym offers a range of classes, such as kickboxing, postnatal and circuits, as well as personal training sessions.

The move is helping to swell the number of members and Matt said that the team is grateful for the support of the local community, especially during the transformation of the new base.

He said: “Moving gyms is a massive job and we had some of the members helping us, as well as local tradespeople helping us in their own time with the work.

“For us, it was great to see the local community getting involved; we found it really touching.”

Earlier this month, staff and members from Real Fitness helped model clothes at a fashion show at the town’s Mailhouse, to showcase items sold by local businesses Hotspur 1364 and AIMathleisure.
