Guiding visitors to the region

NORTHUMBERLAND’s official website and holiday guide have seen a huge boost in visitors.

Traffic to has increased by 49 per cent over the last three months alone.

Over the last year, a total of 619,000 different people visited the site, an increase of 29 per cent on the year before.

A reader survey for the 2011 Northumberland Tourism Holiday and Short Breaks guide revealed that 63 per cent of readers subsequently visited Northumberland, spending almost £42.5million in the county. It also revealed that 25 per cent were not planning a visit.

Giles Ingram, chief executive of Northumberland Tourism, said: “These results show just how important tourism promotion is to Northumberland.

“More and more tourists are being inspired to visit our beautiful county by our website, but Northumberland’s printed holiday guide is still an important way of attracting visitors who spend significant amounts in the county while they are here.”
