More than 40 people attended last week’s meeting, welcoming the opportunity to get together to discuss their concerns.

There was strong agreement on the need to oppose the development in light of the county council’s stated intention to reduce new-build requirements and concerns about traffic and road safety.

Chairman of the association, Dr Tricia Cresswell, said: “Residents expressed serious concerns about the safety of the proposed junction between a widened Peter’s Mill Lane and Alnmouth Road and the adverse impact of yet more traffic on Alnmouth Road and at the roundabout.

“Although understanding the status of the Alnwick and Denwick Neighbourhood Plan, residents fundamentally questioned the need for any further new housing in light of the rapidly worsening economic situation, the lack of infrastructure and the current depressed housing market in Alnwick.”

ARRA will be meeting again at the Mechanics’ Institute at 6.30pm on Tuesday, October 24
