Fans of tractors and vintage vehicles can look forward to a great giveaway as a popular annual event takes place later this month.
Northumberland Vintage Tractor Club Rally takes place at at Brunton Airfield, near Christon Bank, on Sunday, October 19, from 10am.
As in previous years, Freegle and other like-minded groups across the county have been offered a table in the marquee where they intend to hold a bring-and-take stall to publicise local community recycling schemes and increase membership.
People will be able to come to the stall and take away everything on show, free of charge, as well as getting information about recycling and local groups.
Freegle recycling groups were set up to give things away rather than send them to landfill or to be incinerated.
During the past few years, members of groups in Alnwick, Seahouses, Morpeth and Cramlington have given away thousands of items such as furniture, white goods, electrical items and toys.
Some of the stranger offers were a microfiche Reader, two kayaks, a nebuliser and an electric foot massager. All went to new homes.
Last year, the organisers of the rally kindly offered a subsidised table in the marquee to publicise the scheme. The thousands attending the long-running family day out were able to take away one item per hour.
One of the organisers said: “The event was an amazing success with people three deep around the table all day.
“Each crate we emptied had a random selection of items, so we never knew what we would have to give away next.
“Most people couldn’t believe we didn’t want any money and some even thought it was a con.”
