Grass-cutting issues on new coastal path linking Northumberland communities

The three-mile long Puffin Way, named by local schoolchildren, was completed in the summer and is already being well used by many walkers and cyclists.

However, the grass alongside it has proved troublesome for Northumberland County Council to maintain.

Coun Guy Renner-Thompson, local county councillor, explained: “The problem is that when the men were digging the path they put all the soil between the path and fence which means the council flail topper can’t be used because it’s very uneven.

“They have been along there with the strimmers and done it .”but we may have to find a way of flattening it out.” because it’s very expensive. I have asked for more money in the budget.”

Funding for the path, which is on council land, was provided by a local business.
