Gorse-bashing to protect grasslands on the Whin Sill

Before the birds start to nest, there is a window of opportunity to put into action some of the management recommendations for one of nine heughs in the Peregrini Lindisfarne landscape.

Outcrops of Whin Sill, like Kippy Law Heugh, 2km north-east of Belford, create the ideal conditions for special grassland habitats.

Unfortunately, much of these grasslands are being engulfed by invasive species, namely gorse.

The Peregrini team is focusing efforts on Kippy Law Heugh over the four Tuesdays in February with the aim to remove as much gorse as possible.

If you can help out on any of these days, contact Sarah Winlow – Sarah.Winlow@northumberland.gov.uk or 07557 326797.

Join the team between 10am and 3pm (or for as long as you can spare).

Tools and training will be provided. Meet at the public lay-by between Easington and Chesterhill farms.
