An annoying breeze and random showers throughout the day failed to dampen the spirits as members welcomed their guests to the 2016 Invitation Day played under four-ball better-ball format.

Third on the day but only by virtue of the countback also with 42 points were Kevin Murphy and Ritchie Campbell from Alnmouth Village. Just out of the prizes in fourth were Brian Hunt and Kevin Thompson from Foxton with 40.
Nearest the Pin - 2 Martin Carss; 4 Alan Johnson; 15 Ian Tate; 17 Kevin Thompson.
Nearest the Pin in two at the 10th hole was Martin Carss. The longest drive was Drew Baxter from Newbiggin. There were also prizes for two’s for Martin Carss, Kevin Murphy, Micky Bell and Chris Jobson.
The presentation, which was his maiden speech, was expertly handled by vice captain Ian Hogg deputising for Billy Brown who had acted as starter all day long.
Speaking of Billy, the captain is holding a charity wine tasting and auction on Saturday, July 16, featuring some amazing Pieroth wines and even more amazing auction lots.
Tickets are only £5 for the evening and all proceeds go towards Billy’s chosen captain’s charity The Oncology Day Unit at Alnwick Infirmary. Members please get your tickets for you and your guests in advance from the clubhouse as soon as possible for this very worthy cause.
Last week saw 24 members of the Senior Section visit Kinross for their annual three day trip. A great time was had by all on The Montgomery and Bruce courses during the day and at The Green Hotel in the evenings.
Thanks go to Bob Chalmers for his expert organisation of the accommodation and golf and David Chevalier for the running of the competitions.
The overall winner of the ‘Claret Jug’ for the three days was John Pentleton and a little dicky bird told me that George Stokoe had to call in securicor to bring home his winnings from the blind sweep and nearest the pins.
