The proposal was lodged by Graham Wade, of Rothbury Bakery, and according to information submitted with the application, the new premises will create 10 part-time members of staff (five full-time equivalents).

The scheme has split opinion, with supporting and objecting statements left on the county council’s online planning portal.

Among the objectors were Catherine and David Taylor of the village’s Coquetvale Hotel, who raised concerns about a potential increase in litter and traffic.

They also said that it would impact existing businesses and that a hot-food/pizza takeaway business was a duplication of what is already in the village.

Meanwhile, a petition supporting the scheme was signed by more than 60 people and Rothbury Parish Council said that it had no objections.
