Glitz and glamour in Red Row as school hosts its film premiere

A touch of Hollywood glamour came to a Northumberland school last week as pupils hosted a film premiere as well as an Oscars-style awards ceremony.

The event, to which the whole school as well the families of the Year 4 pupils involved were invited, was designed to showcase the youngsters’ efforts this term in literacy lessons.

Using resources by A Tale Unfolds, the children wrote a script as well as the material that went behind the film, like diaries, before creating, filming and producing a 30-minute film using iMovie.

The 16 Year 4 pupils involved, who all took turns playing one of the five roles in the production, unveiled the final version of El Dorado: The Lost City of Gold last Tuesday.

And as with any film premiere or awards ceremony, there were the ‘stars’ dressed in their glad-rags strutting their staff on the red carpet as well as statuettes for the lucky winners.

Year 4 teacher Gwen Curry said: “They have had a brilliant time. It’s been outstanding.”

She was also full of praise for A Tale Unfolds, an organisation which provides literacy filmmaking resources.

“It’s turned the literacy curriculum into something very exciting and given us a reason to do writing, because it’s sometimes hard getting boys to write,” she said.
