GCSE delight for Duchess’s girls

Girls have led the way at Alnwick’s Duchess’s Community High School, with a number receiving exceptional GCSE exam results today.

Last year saw the boys in command, but the balance has been restored with nearly 70 per cent of girls gaining five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths.

Although a number of boys achieved impressive results, six girls came top of the class. Overall, one-in-nine students gained more than seven A or A* grades.

Leading with an astonishing 12 A* grades, one of which was an A** in Additional Maths, was 16-year-old Bethany Kohler from Alnwick.

A full list of GCSE results will be posted on the Gazette website later today.
