Every so often, there is a story that comes along to restore your faith in humanity and make you feel proud to be part of the community in which you live.
The Aid For Aidan campaign, or rather the success of the appeal, is one such moment.
The response to the cause from residents, tradesmen and businesses – many of whom probably didn’t even know Aidan or his family personally before offering their services – has been nothing short of remarkable.
It is a touching and heartwarming reminder that a lot of good does exist in today’s society and perhaps more importantly, within our north Northumberland community.
In just four months, people of all ages and experiences have rallied together to help tackle a huge and daunting renovation job at Aidan’s home.
It means that the quality of life for the youngster and his family will be improved dramatically and Aidan is already settling in nicely to his new home. The fact that the family are in the property in time for Christmas is an added bonus.
And a lot of that is down to a true gift – community spirit.
