GAZETTE COMMENT: Alnwick Day shows that community spirit is alive

Alnwick Day was an incredibly special day for so many reasons. First and foremost, it was a fitting tribute to Jonathan Percival – a much-loved man who will be sorely missed by many.

The fact that it was supported by so many people – decked out in red – and a number of businesses in the town was further proof of just how popular the 37-year-old was.

On top of this, it was good to see so many of Alnwick’s pubs busy on a Sunday – a sight which has not been seen for a long while.

It brought back fond memories of when the town was in its heyday and was reminiscent of events such as the Fair.

That so many businesses jumped on board with the occasion by offering deals and discounts was encouraging.

Now, we need to is build on this momentum, by continuing to support our businesses, who, in turn, we’re sure will support their customers.

Perhaps the most special thing about Alnwick Day, was that it showed that community spirit is as strong as ever.
