As reported by the Gazette in November last year, The Alnwick Garden was shortlisted in three different categories in the 2016 Hudson’s Heritage Awards, which celebrate the best visitor experiences at heritage attractions.

The Garden, which is the brainchild of the Duchess of Northumberland, is in the running in the Best Family Day Out, Best Loos and Best Event/Exhibition categories.

The winners and highly commended will be presented with their awards at a reception at Goldsmith’s Hall in London on Tuesday.

It wouldn’t be the Garden’s first taste of success in the awards as the attraction’s Treehouse Restaurant won the Best Eating Out prize last year, when Lady Waterford Hall in Ford came out on top in the Hidden Gem category.

Established in 2011, the Hudson’s Heritage Awards are an independent scheme, judged by an expert panel chaired by heritage consultant Norman Hudson.

He will be joined this year by Lucinda Lambton, writer and broadcaster; Jeremy Musson, architectural writer; Simon Foster, consultant to Channel 4’s Country House Rescue; and Ken Robinson, tourism business consultant.

Sarah Greenwood, publisher of Hudson’s Historic Houses & Gardens, said: “We are thrilled to announce our shortlist and look forward to revealing our winners.”
