GALLERY: Fun in the sun at village music festival

The hills were alive with the sound of music, as Rothbury staged its annual festival of traditional music.

Blessed with sunshine and scorching temperatures, this year’s three-day showcase has been hailed a success.

The feast of fiddles and other traditional sounds began on Friday with a dancing ceilidh.

Saturday featured competitions for dialect poetry, singing and instruments, and there were performances in the centre of the village and a concert in the church in the evening, followed by a non-dancing ceilidh at the mart.

On Sunday, the final fling ceilidh was staged in the morning, while afternoon sessions took place throughout the village.

Festival secretary Linda Hubbucks said: “The event went really well and the weather was amazing, so lots of formal and informal sets played outdoors.

“The performances in the acoustic concert in the church and the non-dancing ceilidh at the mart went down well.

“Sunday morning saw a great age range participating in the final fling ceilidh – exactly what we are trying to promote, the next generation of musicians.

“And we are planning on doing it all again next year, from July 19 to 21.”
