The Rotary Club of Amble and Warkworth organised the event at James Calvert Spence College, which saw the Band of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers taking centre stage.

Members of the Coquet and Aln Interact Club, a junior branch of Rotary, also helped out.

And the concert proved a hit, raising £730 to be shared between the Amble Lifeboat and the Royal British Legion.

Rotary club secretary Fred Calvert said: “The event was a great success.

“We were most fortunate that this top class military band was able to come to Amble, and we are most grateful to the school for allowing us to use its hall.

“We are also grateful to the audience, whose support and generosity enabled us to raise £365 for each of these worthwhile causes.”

The event provided a special treat for 12-year-old Antonia Johnson, who was voted best percussionist in one of the band’s novelty spots to win an invitation to conduct the musicians.

The Interact Club is for youngsters aged 12 to 18 and meets at the college every fortnight.

Executive headteacher Neil Rodgers said: “It was an excellent concert and thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.”
