Motorists in north Northumberland can expect another three weeks of contraflow on the A1, starting on Monday.
Contractors for Highways England will be resurfacing just more than a mile of the southbound A1 near Brownieside, to the north of Alnwick, from next week. The scheme is expected to be completed by Sunday, August 21.
The work will be carried out under a 24-hour-a-day contraflow system, which means traffic will be able to travel in both directions on the northbound carriageway.
Some side roads will be affected by the closure of the southbound carriageway, but Highways England says that clearly-signed diversions will be in place.
Highways England project manager, Steve Bishop, said: “When complete, this project will provide drivers with safer and smoother journeys along this stretch of the A1 in Northumberland.
“Every effort is being made to ensure disruption to traffic and local residents is kept to a minimum and we’ll be using a contraflow system on the northbound carriageway to keep vehicles running in both directions on the dual carriageway.”
