Paul Bine and John Conway organised a fundraising event at Chirton Social Club in memory of Jake Farley, who died last August.

The 14-year-old had a muscle and nerve condition and was unable to breathe for himself, but was a happy, popular member of Sir Charles Parsons School in Newcastle, which serves pupils aged 11 to 19 with severe or complex learning difficulties.

The North Shields event aimed to raise cash for new indoor and outdoor play equipment for the school.

More than 300 people attended, raising an impressive £3,560. Now further events are being planned.

Anyone wishing to support the fundraising efforts should call Jo Anderson at the school on 0191 295 2280.
