The county council has allocated some funding to repair the Bondgate Cobbles in Alnwick, with urgent work to take place next week.
At last night’s meeting of Alnwick Town Council, town and county councillor Gordon Castle told members that an initial £10,000 has been allocated from Northumberland County Council’s car-parks maintenance budget.
He explained that urgent work on a section outside Taylor’s newsagents and along is to be repaired next week, although further funding should be available in the next financial year to continue the work, which is set to use a new bonding agent that means the cobbles sit further down, causing less of a trip hazard.
Work will also include repainting of white and yellow lines and marking out the footpath, but it will be limited to the car-parking area as the money comes from that section of the county council’s budget.
