The trust has been awarded £105,500 to buy ‘B’ listed Keith House on Coldstream High Street to convert into two affordable homes.

The property has been unoccupied for ten years and Rannoch Daly, chairman of the community trust explained: “The trust runs the community centre in the former West Church on the High Street and Keith House is the former manse next door.

“Prompted by the Community Right to Buy (CRB) we contacted the owners of Keith House to see if they were willing to consider an offer. The CRB was designed to help communities like Coldstream solve problems like Keith House and it would be wonderful to see the building brought back to life.

“We obtained grant funding for a feasibility study which formed the basis of our application to the Scottish Land Fund. This grant is only the first stage. We now have to find funding and get planning permission for the conversion and development work.

“The plan is to create one three bedroom house and one two bedroom home for rent as affordable housing. Berwickshire Housing Association have agreed to manage the property on our behalf as factors.

“No final decisions have been made. Trust members will have the final say about whether to buy the property.”
