Amble Mayor Jane Dargue, right, is presented with the hamper to Amble Food Bank by raffle winner Allison Hills.

The event, which featured a raffle and auction, was staged at the town’s Zecca restaurant earlier this month and was well supported.

Lara Millar, from the youth project, said: “This was the first fund-raising event of this type that the Project has organised for a long time and we hope this will be the beginning of a lot more to come. We also want to form stronger and new partnerships with individuals, organisations, churches and businesses in the town.

“I was hoping the event would raise £600, so we are chuffed that we raised £1,400, exceeding our expectations.”

Thanks have been given to all of those who supported the event, including Cheviot Homes, Harbour Fish Bar, The P Pod, Linden Hall, Spurreli Boutique Ice-cream, The Old Storehouse, Northern Structures and Moira J Wedding Florist.

Also, teenager Liam Shipperlee offered to do a day’s gardening work, raising £350 for the Project in the process.

In a special touch, Alison Hills, the winner of the raffle’s first prize – a hamper – donated the food items to Amble Food Bank.
