Thousands of people turned out to celebrate Red Row Vintage Club Steam Fair’s silver jubilee at the weekend.

With the sun shining down for nearly the whole event, it has been hailed a huge success and organisers are already starting to plan for the 2014 event.

Around 5,000 visitors went to the Druridge Bay-based fair on Saturday and Sunday, and a record number of exhibits were on offer for people to see.

Vehicles from as far away as France and Belgium were among the 400 on show, including a Datsun Cherry, one of only four in the world.

Actor Tim Healy attended with one of his classic Jaguars.

Committee member Paul Coxon said: “It was an absolutely fantastic weekend.

“We have had a record number of exhibits and I think we are now one of the largest, if not the largest steam fair in the area.

“The weather was terrific as well. It was forecast for showers but we only had a few drops. It is great to be at Druridge Bay. We got such a high number of visitors because of the location.

“And we even had some celebrities in our midst.

“The event is getting bigger and bigger each year.

“We also had a really good selection of miniature steam engines as well and the marquee was packed full of traders doing a roaring trade.”

Exhibitors, committee members and guests were also treated to music from Rue and the Rockets on Saturday night.
