Celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will be making his third appearance at Alnwick Food Festival this year.

The world-renowned Frenchman, who has been awarded five AA rosettes, will be making a guest appearance during the two-day festival this autumn.

Taking place on Saturday, September 21m and Sunday, September 22, the event, for which the Northumberland Gazette is media sponsor, highlights the wealth of local food and drink producers in the North East and is now in its ninth year.

With record numbers flocking to Alnwick for the event over the last few years, the 2013 festival is set to go one better.

Jean-Christophe, who runs the Novelli Academy in Hertfordshire, may not be the only celebrity to visit during the weekend.

Festival coordinator Karen Larkin said: “I am delighted that we are able to bring Jean-Christophe Novelli back to Alnwick Food Festival. He clearly loves Alnwick, the people and the event and he is equally as thrilled to be returning.

“This year will see a few new traders in the Market Place, activities for children and there may even be some surprise celebrities calling in for a coffee.”

Jean-Christophe Novelli described Alnwick Food Festival as being in the premier league last year, and organisers are hoping the same will ring true this year.

More than 50 traders will be in the Market Place while chefs demonstrate their talents in the Northumberland Hall.

There will also be an animal petting area, pony rides, music, entertainment, street food and more.

Alnwick Beer Festival, run by the Alnwick and District Round Table, will also take place again in the Town Hall with beers from across the North East, ciders and wines on offer, alongside soft drinks for designated drivers.

Jean-Christophe, who takes the Novelli Academy on tour when appearing at food festivals, said: “I am really looking forward to coming back to Alnwick again.

“I love the food festival and its organisers strive to put on an event which highlights just how important local food and drink producers are.

“The festival showcases the best things about the area.

“I have said before that it is one of my favourite events to demonstrate at and it truly is.

“Alnwick Food Festival is in the premier league of food festivals and long may it continue.

“I am looking forward to seeing new and old faces and sharing my skills and knowledge once again.”

A Marriage Made in Northumberland will also be at the event showcasing local venues, their menus and the area.
