Freedom of the City for RAF Boulmer

The Freedom of Newcastle will be bestowed on RAF Boulmer in a ceremony and parade later this month.

The proud occasion will be held on Saturday, May 19, in what is the centenary year of the RAF.

RAF Boulmer personnel will form a half guard consisting of two flights of 24. There will also be a flight of 24 from the University Air Squadron and two flights of 24 Air Cadets.

Veterans will be transported in classic Land Rovers behind the parade.

Group Captain Rich Jacob, Station Commander at RAF Boulmer, will receive the scroll from the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Coun Linda Wright, and accompany her in the review of the Guard of Honour.

The parade will start at the Civic Centre from 10.45am and then march through Newcastle, with an expected finish time of 12.15pm.

Group Captain Jacob said: “It will be an absolute honour to be the Station Commander of RAF Boulmer when it receives the Freedom of Newcastle from the Lord Mayor later this month.

“It is a wonderful way for RAF Boulmer to celebrate the Royal Air Force’s centenary with our community.”

Recently, as part of the RAF centenary celebrations, RAF Boulmer lit up its radome at Brizlee Wood with the RAF 100 logo.
