Four brothers join community

There was an international flavour when Alnmouth Friary admitted four new novices at Evening Prayer last Wednesday, 11th July. Alnmouth is presently the centre for training new brothers in the European Province of the (Anglican) Society of Saint Francis (SSF) and the four all come originally from outside the UK. They have been living at Alnmouth as 'postulants' since last September but Wednesday's ceremony was when (back row first, left to right) Brothers Cristian Michael (from the Lebanon and originally Romania), Micael Christoffer and David, both from Sweden, and Robert, from Germany, first received their brown habits. Cristian and Robert have been in England for some time and have lived as members of the volunteer community at SSF's Hilfield Friary in Dorset.

FOUR new novices have been admitted to a Northumberland monastic community, all from different parts of Europe.

Brothers Cristian Michael, Micael Christoffer, David and Robert have become part of Alnmouth Friary, which is presently the centre for training new brothers in the European Province of the Anglican Society of Saint Francis, commonly known as the Franciscans.

And they were welcomed to the holy house on January 11, at evening prayer.

Brother Desmond Alban, Novice Guardian at the Friary, said: “All four all come originally from outside the UK. They have been living at Alnmouth as postulants since last September, but the ceremony was when they first received their brown habits.

“Cristian Michael is from the Lebanon and originally Romania, while Micael Christoffer and David are both from Sweden and Robert is from Germany.
