Fostering service’s call for more men

This Father’s Day, Northumberland County Council’s family placement service is calling out for more male foster carers.

Whether they are single or part of a couple and whether they are interested in being either the main carer or supporting the main carer in the household, the service wants to hear from them.

Stephen, from north Northumberland, who supports his partner who fosters, said: “When Geraldine first mentioned that she’d like to become a foster carer, I was anxious to find out how it would affect our lives and how much I would be involved as a working partner.

“Fostering is slightly different from coming home to your own children, but you all get support from the Northumberland family placement service – whether you’re the main carer or supporting partner.”
