Former bank building to be turned into flats

A bid to transform the former Barclays Bank building in Belford into three self-contained flats has been unanimously approved by members of the North area planning committee

It was previously used by the village’s development trust, but has been redundant for three years and developer Craig McLaren submitted a plan to create two-bedroom units. While not objecting to the scheme, the parish council had raised concerns about parking, saying extra cars could add to parking congestion. At the meeting, Coun John Woodman said: “Parking is a problem, but it is counterbalanced by the benefit of having the building brought back into use.”
