Footpath fixing in Northumberland hills

WORK is underway to repair badly eroded footpaths on Simonside.

Northumberland National Park rangers will be carrying out essential work as part of their continuing maintenance programme of the iconic sandstone ridge that overlooks Rothbury and the Coquet Valley.

This week, weather permitting, a helicopter will fly bags of pitching stone to a site of the eroded footpath at Bob Pyle’s Studdie.

Due to the steep slope, the bags of stone may be deemed a health and safety risk so this section of footpath may have to have a temporary closure notice during the course of the works up to the end of October.

The second section of eroded footpath, at Old Stell Crag, will remain open to the public during the work.
