A scheme is being drawn up to try to alleviate long-standing flooding issues at Fallodon Railway Crossing, pictured above.

Network Rail has carried out a survey and found that the existing drainage of the old station which used to exist at the crossing is above the level of flooding.

Northumberland County Council is now at the design stage of a scheme that will remove the dip in the road just past the crossing and channel the water away to ditches and down the hill to the watercourse.

Officers are also liaising with Network Rail to see what consents are needed to carry out works adjacent to the railway to minimise delay.

Longhoughton County Councillor Kate Cairns said: “I hope this can all be sorted before we get back into the wettest months.”
