WORK starts next week on a flood protection scheme in Longhoughton.
The Northumbrian Water scheme will protect one property on Lacey Street that floods in times of heavy rainfall.
The work, which starts on Monday and lasts for two months, will involve installing 80 metres of new sewer pipe in the street at a cost of £200,000.
Carried out by contractor Owen Pugh GDC, it has been planned during the school summer holiday to minimise disruption to Longhoughton C of E First School.
From Monday, to Friday, August 5, the junction of Lacey Street and Crowlea Road will be closed. A rolling road closure will gradually move along Lacey Street, starting at the junction with Crowlea Road and finishing at the junction by Longhoughton C of E First School from Monday, 8, to Friday, September 9.
