The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for high tides along the Northumberland coast.
The alert is in place for today, from Berwick to St Mary’s Lighthouse at Whitley Bay.
The Agency says that high spring tides, along with northerly winds, mean that spray and overtopping waves are possible in low-lying coastal areas around the time of high tide, in particular at Beadnell’s Harbour Road (north).
The next high tide at Amble is expected to be 5.6metres at 3.43pm, although the Agency says that it does not expect to have to close the flood gates at Warkworth.
The Agency adds that it does not expect to issue any flood warnings for today’s high tides along the Northumberland coast, but is monitoring the situation.
