Fitting home for spectacular mural

It is one of two that were painted by The Park Lane Group of Blyth. The murals, one of which is now in private hands, were donated to the Wellesley Nautical School in Blyth in 1952.

They were hung on each side of the altar in the school chapel until the school closed in 2007. Following the school’s closure, and demolition, an ex-member of Wellesley Support Staff, Les Fay, rescued some of the contents and later donated the mural to WOBA.

Coun Barry Elliott, of Blyth, then had it framed and displayed it along with other Wellesley artefacts in a small maritime museum which he had opened in Blyth.

But now, WOBA has decided that the mural would be best suited in surroundings linked to its subject so it was decided to donate it to the Lindisfarne Heritage Centre.
