In May this year, he joined the team at Northumberland Seafood to manage the supply of fresh fish for the new fish counter and Creel Fish Club at the Northumberland Seafood Centre, in Amble.

Lee said: “It was a great experience being in a competition at the UK’s largest fish market, meeting other fishmongers from around the country and soaking up the atmosphere of Billingsgate.

“I was delighted to make it through to the final in my first competition and who knows, maybe next year I’ll do better.”

Northumberland Seafood is a trading arm of ADT Northumberland Ltd, which is managed by Amble Development Trust.

The Northumberland Seafood Centre was completed in August 2015, as part of the Amble Harbour Village development project. It is open for fresh-fish sales seven days a week (subject to supply) until the end of October.

The idea behind Northumberland Seafood is to support local fishermen in taking the strain off overfished stocks and introducing customers to new types of seafood.

As well as offering customers a range of seafood they are familiar with, the aim is to also introduce them to species of fish they don’t know much about and are unsure how to prepare, such as gurnard, pollock, sand dab and red mullet.
