A course in Amble which helps budding fishermen secure jobs has once again proved popular, with the current round of tuition being oversubscribed.
The 10 lucky students who managed to bag a place on the fully-funded Introduction to Commercial Fishing course started their studies earlier this month.
They include a former soldier and unemployed people looking to secure a berth in their home ports, including Amble and Blyth.
Dennis Osborne, who runs the sessions, said he hoped the students who applied but could not secure a place, would keep in touch and he will apply to run another course, made possible thanks to funding from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
He is also buoyed by the fishermen doing refresher courses as their tickets were more than three years old and qualified for free refresher training.
