Four teachers chalked up an impressive amount of money for charity, after taking on this year’s Great North Run.

Craig Warburton, Michelle Makepeace, Susan Young and Emma Langman, from Swansfield Park Primary School, Alnwick, completed the world-famous half-marathon in September in aid of HospiceCare North Northumberland.

Recently, they presented a cheque for £1,212 to hospice manager Sue Gilbertson and the pupils gave their inspiring teachers a round of applause when they were presented with their medals during an assembly.

The four described the experience of completing the Great North Run as rewarding and memorable and said they felt a huge sense of achievement.

The quartet was inspired to take on the 13.1-mile course – which starts in Newcastle and ends on the seafront at South Shields – in honour of Sally Wood, who lost her cancer battle earlier this year. The much-loved headteacher of Hugh Joicey C of E Aided First School, in Ford, was cared for by the hospice during the last four months of her life.
