Firefighters were called to a report of a pile of rubbish on fire this evening, which is thought to have been started deliberately.

One crew from Alnwick attended the fire, which occurred to the rear of Chapel Lands in the town, at around 6pm. The crew used a hose reel to extinguish the flames and left the scene at 6.15pm.

A spokeswoman for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said that the fire was being treated as arson. She added that no one was injured in the incident.

It comes just a matter of days after firefighters were called to a similar incident, which occurred close to the spot of tonight’s fire.
