Latest figures which show that the North East’s employment rate is at a record high have been hailed as ‘fantastic’.
Data released by the Office of National Statistics shows that the region’s employment rate is up 2.5 per cent, compared to this time last year.
It also represents a 0.9 per cent increase on the last quarter (November 2014 to January 2015).
On top of that, there are 22,000 less people claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance across the region, compared to this time last year.
In Northumberland, this figure is down 27 per cent, showing 1,822 fewer claimants.
The results are representative of the national picture, which sees 617,000 more people in work compared to this time last year.
Pam Calvert, of Jobcentre Plus, told the Gazette: “The national employment rate is at a record high and the North East has recorded its highest employment rate.
“It’s fantastic and shows the region is on the up.”
