Having eliminated table toppers Gateshead from the cup in their last outing, Alnmouth failed to convert cup form to league, going down to defeat at home to Felling.

An even opening began to swing the visitors’ way and were duly rewarded when slack play at the back ended when Lee Turnbull was afforded space to fire home.

The lead was doubled before the break when James Fenwick punished more generous home defending with a clever diversion into the net.

A reshuffle and the introduction of some passion saw a different home side emerge in the second period and the deficit was soon halved when Phil Bright rifled past ‘keeper Jordan Bolton after Andrew’s Chingwalu and Murray had earlier efforts blocked.

Although continuing to press, the leveller never arrived and their spirit was given a knock when a break out and clash in the box resulted in Fenwick restoring the two goal cushion from the spot.

The score was given a further slant when Fenwick completed his hat-trick with the very last action before the final whistle as he connected adeptly with his head to a deep cross from the right.
