Felton, History Society
The Felton and District History Society meeting on Monday, March 19, began with its AGM.
Reports were given, the current office holders and committee were all unanimously re-elected unopposed, and it was agreed that neither the membership fees nor the visitors’ fees would be increased for the next season beginning in September 2018.
‘Old English’ then gave their presentation, The King’s Shilling. This was an interesting, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, story of recruitment into the British Army in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was told through the songs and music of the period interspersed with the history of recruitment illustrated by a PowerPoint presentation of contemporary pictures and newspaper cuttings. It proved to be both informative and entertaining.
The next meeting of Felton and District History Society will take place in Felton Village Hall, Main Street, Felton NE65 9NH, on Monday, April 16, at 7.30pm when Richard Carlton will be giving a talk on The Peregrine Project and the Holy Island Dig.
Members and non-members are welcome. Non-members are charged £3 a meeting.
