Felton and Thirston WI, March meeting

COSTUME DRAMA: Members of Felton and Thirston WI were amazed by the stunning costumes on display at their March meeting.

After a short business meeting, president June May introduced Julia Soares McCormack who was the speaker for the evening.

She began by describing her star-studded reaction to the film Anne of a Thousand Days and how she was inspired to design and make her first Anne Boleyn costume when she was only 14 years old.

We were introduced to her husband, magnificently dressed as Henry VIII, who light-heartedly assisted from time to time.

Julia described how she researched and made all the costumes, including farthingales, bonnets and codpieces so that every item was as authentic as possible.

Afterwards, there was plenty of opportunity for members to inspect the costumes more closely and chat to Julia and ‘Henry’. Our next meeting (A Right Royal Handbag – speaker Susan Howard) will be held in Felton Village Hall at 7.30pm on Monday, April 11.
