Fed-up folk name and shame

AN appeal to name and shame dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets has led to numerous names being given to dog wardens.

In last week’s Gazette our Scoop the Poop campaign called on members of the public to report those who they know are continuing to flout the law and leave behind piles of poo, ready for people to step in.

And since then Coun Steven Bridgett who represents Rothbury and Coquetdale, and is training to become the first councillor in the country to issue fixed penalty notices, has been given a list of names of repeat offenders in his area.

“Six names of apparently the most prolific offenders in this area, not just Rothbury, have been given to me more than once,” he said.

“When people have given me the names they have also given me details about where they go and when to walk their dog or dogs.

“Obviously I have passed these details on to public protection because it is intelligence but when I am fully trained I will make sure that I patrol the areas at the times given.”

Coun Bridgett has been trained in handing our fixed penlaty notices this week and will be on patrol with a dog warden next week as part of his role.
