Feast for senses at Spring Show this weekend
There'll be a treat for all the senses at this year's Alnwick Spring Show which takes place this weekend.
Beautiful blooms will delight the eye, while mouthwatering cakes and bakes will provide a feast for the tastebuds at the event which takes place on Saturday at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre between 11am and 5pm.
The event, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, showcases the efforts of novice and experienced gardeners and growers alike.
Numerous classes are on offer for floral art, daffodils and other plants as well as a championship tulip competition sponsored by show patron the Duchess of Northumberland, who will be present during the afternoon to present the prizes.
It’s not just the green fingered who get the chance to scoop a prize. There is a cookery section for sweet and savouries as well as a sugarcraft competition.
Youngsters also have a chance to show off their talents with sections for them in the horticultural and cookery classes.
The organisers want to encourage anyone to ‘have a go - enter the show’ to make this an extra special event for the anniversary year.
Spring show co-ordinator Gill Starkey said: “ We are looking forward to this year’s event and would like to thank the many individuals and organisations who have helped to make it possible”. Amongst the show’s sponsors this year are Alnwick Town Council, Alnwick Youth Hostel, Blackshaws, Co-op Funeralcare, Adam Douglas Legal, Pottergate Pantry, Sainsbury’s Ltd, WH Smith and Tustain Motors.
Admission to the show is £2, free to exhibitors and children under 16.
