NEW life has been breathed into old farm buildings.

The Manners family, Richard, Fraser and father John, are opening North Farm Cottages, Embleton, later this month as luxury self-catering accommodation.

North Farm is part of the family business, and home to Richard, his wife Claire and their family. It is now about to become an important diversification project designed to bring life, income and opportunity back into the rural community.

All the craftsmen and materials that have gone into the £500,000 development have been sourced locally.

Richard said: “When we started building we agreed on a policy of supporting local contractors.

“The standard of the stone masonry, the joinery and all the other services has been phenomenal and we have achieved our aim of updating these traditional stone buildings with the best of modern craftsmanship and materials possible.”

Throughout the entire development, where possible all of the materials have been sourced from local shops and wholesalers.

There are currently five cottages sleeping between three and 12 people, with a four further cottages already planned in a second phase of development.

Each cottage has already received a four or five star rating and the locally-designed website – – is attracting inquiries from across the country.

Richard said: “We are delighted with the way that the North Farm Cottages have been transformed and it is a testament to the fantastic commitment and support we have received from everyone who has worked with us during the last 18 months.

“This area of Northumberland has some tremendous businesses involved in the building, development and construction and I can recommend them all.”
