Family and dog left wading through water after being cut off by tide at Northumberland beauty spot

Seahouses Coastguard Rescue Team were paged by Humber Coastguard at 3.38pm today, Wednesday, June 24, after reports two adults, two children and a dog cut had been off on the sandbar at Budle Bay.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Once on scene it was quickly established that there had been a family and dog in the water up to chest height who had been swimming but were not in any trouble and were by this time out of the water.

“This family informed our team that there had also been another couple wading across the water but they were also safely onshore and gone from the scene before our arrival.

“Safety advice was given regarding the rapidly incoming tide, areas of mud and currents which are prevalent in the bay and checks were made to ensure nobody else was in the water or on the sandbar.

“The team were then stood down.

“Once back on station, the vehicle, equipment and PPE were checked, washed down and made ready for immediate use.

“This appears to have been a false alarm with good intent.

“Government guidelines were observed by the team in line with HM Coastguard guidelines for teams on call.”

The team has said anyone who sees someone in trouble on the coast or at sea, should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
