Lorna Stewart-Hook has created a Facebook page to help push for equality and ‘put Northumberland on the LGBT map’.

In 2014, following a law change, the 34-year-old from Alnwick, and her partner Carmelle transferred their civil partnership into a same-sex marriage.

Lorna said: “The law change was a huge milestone; one a lot never thought would happen.

“But I felt that in Northumberland there was nothing for the LGBT community in the way of support networks, information about local events, coffee meet ups or basically a place to talk to other people who identify as LGBT in the area. So I have created the Facebook group – Northumberland LGBT Network – where people can do just that.

“Anyone can join no matter of age, gender, sexual orientation – just as long as we all have the same vision – and together we can put Northumberland on the LGBT map and provide a safe support network to keep working towards equality.”

February is LGBT History Month. Lorna says it is a time to support and acknowledge the fight that many people face in being themselves and to highlight that sexual diversity is part of society. Visit the website lgbthistorymonth.org.uk
