An extensive road resurfacing plan is to take place in Alnwick.
Green Batt is currently closed as highways workers from Northumberland County Council are resurfacing.
It is to be shut off to vehicles until June 29 while the works are carried out and a diversion is in place.
But more works are set to take place between now and next April to upgrade roads in the town.
And the works are on the list thanks to perseverance from Alnwick town and county councillor Gordon Castle.
The town centre, including Bondgate Within is also due to be done along with Queen Street.
And at this month’s Northumberland County Council north area committee meeting it was heard that the works were almost not included for the coming financial year as it was decided that they may be pulled from the programme.
Coun Castle said: “That is as much as we were able to get on the local transport plans for this year.
“I was very concerned that the council was going to withdraw the works but they are full of potholes and look like a right patchwork quilt.
“I managed to persuade them to reinstate the resurfacing programme in the town centre.”
The work is part of a £14.9million budget for improvements to the county’s roads for the 2012/13 financial year.
