Plans to expand Barmoor Castle Country Park, near Lowick, have been submitted.

A planning application to put 60 static caravans on a part of the site known as Back Croft has been lodged with Northumberland County Council.

The scheme, if approved, would result in a net increase of 10 caravans, plus provision of an extra warden’s lodge and a reduction in size and relocation of the maintenance yard and building to a more secluded part of the site.

The site currently has planning permission for 231 caravans across the park and so far 149 pitches are developed.

A report accompanying the application, submitted on behalf of owners Ann Lamb and her son Jamie, states: ‘Our client’s vision for the park moving forward is to develop it as a high quality, peaceful retreat, with spacious layouts.

‘The difference in approach to layout between the more recent developments on Parklands and The Pastures, compared to the original development on Cannon Lawn...reflects the change in customer expectations and at Barmoor Castle there is room to set the park out with a more spacious layout, leaving more areas of open amenity space and landscape planting features.’

The proposed development site, in the north-eastern corner of the estate, is well screened with mature woodland.

Further pitches are also to be developed within the existing approved areas of The Parklands and Pony Fields, as well as some relocation of pitches around the Denholm Lawn and Palm Lawn areas within the extant permissions.

The development proposals would bring the total number of caravans on the park to 241, 10 more than the 231 currently permitted under existing consents and still under development.
